What is an Australian Adventure without being stung by a poison animal? Exactly – That’s why I was stung by a Cobbler in my right foot last wednesday. A Cobbler is a sort of catfish living close to seaweed and has a poison sting somewhere at its head. The impact of such a meeting is: extreme pain, which goes up to your hip. A foot which swells that you wanna cut it off. And you get morphines at hospital to relief the pain. That´s the only thing that really helps besides putting your foot into hot water to demolish the protein chaines of the poison. That´s fun!
Meanwhile four days have passed since the sneaky attack. My foot has massive blisters and to walk is still a torture. I´m curious what´ll happen. It´s a shame that we´ve got wind today. But my foot does not fit into the strap-pad-combi.
The ironie of the story is, that a couple of days before it happened I´d read in the local papers that there haven´t been caught any Cobbler for the last 10 years.
Was ist ein Australientrip, ohne von einem giftigem Tier attackiert worden zu sein? Eben – deswegen ließ ich mich letzten Mittwoch von einem Cobbler in den Fuß stechen. Das ist eine Art Wels, der in der Nähe von Seegras lebt und einen giftigen Stachel irgendwo am Kopf hat. Auswirkungen sind: höllische Schmerzen, die bis zur Hüfte hochkriechen. Ein Fuß, der anschwillt und man am liebsten abschneiden will und man bekommt Morphium im Krankenhaus. Das einzige, was wirklich gegen das Gift hilft, ist heißes Wasser, um die Eiweißketten zu sprengen. Und gegen die Schmerzen hilft eben nur Morphium. Was ein Spaß.
Mittlerweile sind vier Tage vergangen seit dem hinterhältigen Angriff. Mein Fuß hat dicke Blasen und Laufen ist nach wie vor eine Qual. Mal sehen, wie sich das entwickelt. Dummerweise haben wir heut auch mal Wind, aber mein Fuß passt nicht in die Schlaufen.
Die Ironie der Geschichte ist, dass ich erst ein paar Tage zuvor in der lokalen Zeitung lesen konnte, dass man seit über 10 Jahren keinen Cobbler mehr gefangen hat.
