On the weekend was the Kitesurf-Trophy on the holiday island Sylt. Thursday night I was picked up by Kitejunkie.com who went all the long way from Munich over Frankfurt MAin to Sylt. Thanks for that!! We drove the 750km from Frankfurt Main to Sylt and arrived there on time for the registration at 10am.
The wind was pretty good though, but not enough to start the Single Elimination. They decided to start a kind of Fun Contest, where you have to show your best trick. Finally I had the chance to flight a new Psycho IV for the very first time and made three very powered kiteloop handle passes. The first place won Mario Rodwald with a Richmann (kiteloop with douple backrotation and handle pass afterwards). Super Mario.
At the afternoon the wind picked up and we could start the Single Elimination. I had to go against Stefan Permien. Even though I had a very good heat with kiteloop handle passes, slims etc. Stefan won the heat, who could land all his tricks super nice and powered. In the end Stefan and Mario were in the finals again, where Mario won against Stefan this time.
On Saturday we started the race. A huge fun, when more than 20 riders go on the same course to be the first. I didn’t think that it might be so much fun. I rode on the 4th place in the first race. In the second I could do pretty well in the beginning but another kite steered his kite into mine so we had to be rescued by a boat, because the wind was slightly off-shore. That took at least 45min. In the third race my tactic didn’t work well. Eventually I could do the 6th place after all. And I pretty satisfied as it was my first race.
When I was standing on the beach on Sunday morning, I thought that´s gonna be fun! The waves were massive and the wind pretty strong. I could win the first two heats in the Double. I was totally overpowered on my 8.0m and fought my way from wave to wave. The next heat I had to go against Rick Jensen. His conditions!! Massive megaloops with handle passes and more. It was simply fun to watch him riding this day. He could go into the finals. Rick was on fire! But he was too tired to win against Mario in the final. But still. Respect!
I am not sure what to do the next days. My flat is still occupied so I could use the time to go training in St. Peter. I am not sure yet. At the moment it is raining!
Well, I am back in Germany again. My flight arrived in Frankfurt / Main at about 1:30pm. The whole journey took me at least 24 hours and that’s the way, I look like at the moment. I am pretty exhausted. Success: I have found out how to survive the 21 hours on a plane and let them fly. You just have to watch 42 episodes of any funny comedy series. Therefore I watched for a couple of hours from what happens in a hospital known as Scrubs, to Fry’s and Bender’s futuristic lifestyle, as the american normal life named Simpsons as Friends. I had forgotten how funny these guys are. Fortunately, I had two seats for me alone on both flights. Thanks God!
The plans for me first Trophy weekend this year has been done. I get armin’s Seat for the weekend. Rock’n'Roll!! I am really looking forward this. So I will hit the road tomorrow northwards to Sylt and will see that I’ll have as much fun as possible.
What I really wanna say, is that I want to thank all the lovely persons, who I was able to meet, who were with me a part of my stay and let the stay be unforgetable! Thank you so much. Thanks the natur, time and silence, I could enjoy. I am still fascinated and been looking for flights in the beginning of February again. I hope, that I’ll cya.
11 days are left to my return flight. According to the question if I am looking forward? Well, it’s so nice here.
Last week we got a nice day with really good conditions and I was totally alone at the most awesome flatwaterspot and could kite and practise a few tricks. Fortunately, after so long and it was neccesary for my self-confidence, as I’d thought that I forgot everything. What I actually did, but a couple of things still worked. But as said, it was just one day. On the whole I feel perfectly prepaired for the Trophy and will climb on the winner’s rostrum. Sure thing.
Besides, I have found the best wave in Perth. Why not earlier. Anyway, I’ve been paddleing against waves, currents and locals for about a week now. They know excactly how to defend their territory. If you don’t get the first wave, you hardly have a chance to play with them. I have fun though. Although the best waves break over a reef, but fortunately the reef is not that sharp.
What’s new as well: Today my whole house and I go on a trip to Margaret River again for the weekend. As been said, it is too nice down there. A last trip for me out of Perth. To feel the big waves and distances and wave with a tissue for the very last time.
But there are things you can look forward. Aside of the new Psycho IV, the new boardies by Schwerelosigkite and warm winds, I’m looking forward to see my family again, although it’ll take a couple of weeks to find a date we all can come together. Btw: I’d like to link my brother’s website as he does an awesome job.
So long, you’ll find me beneeth or above a wave before I’ll slop to you.
