Hit the road

Travelling Add comments

After having packed the Van, Nik and I hit the road down south. A short visit in Safety Bay and Secret Harbour let us be sure that there´s really no wind as well, waves are spectacular and we can drive all the way to Margaret River.
Of course, did we see the awesome sights like the Jetty of Busselton and the southern Meat Pies. Eventually we set up our first sleeping spot westerly of Dungsborough at a bay called Eagle Bay. As there was no wind, we decided to walk the a bit of the coastline by feet and had to confess, that waves look beautiful and we have to buy some surfboards. Yahoo, was our shop we trust in and from now on we are proud owners of two vintage surfboards.
We went straight into the water of Margaret River and have admit that these waves are just too big and massive for some greenhorns. My head was shaked a bit too hard so that´s why I was hanging arround a bit weird. And as darkness and silence is the best in such a situations, we had a look for some caves that can be very massive and astonishing. Coming back to daylight we drove further south still on the search for wind. The only thing that we found was the rain. A new masterplan had to be done. We decided to hide under the lush forrests of Walepole. Those trees can achieve a height of 60m and you can do a ein Tree Top Walk. Really breath taking. At least now we have to see, that the main saison is over and lots of pensioneers take the chance to go with their massive camper vans on tour.
It´s day 10 of our trip and we´ve reached the perfect wavespot. We are in Denmark / Ocean Beach and the nature looks a bit like Norway or Ireland. Especially the rain let the green on the rough costline look even more green and shining.
After wind knocked at our van today in the morning, we went down like thursty calves to the waterhole which is just toe deep and we tried our best. But the wind seemed to had read the forecast and recognized that it was not supposed to be there. As it, we decided to go again and we grabed our surfboards and jumped into the surf. It´s so much fun and we can say that we do the sport now more and more on purpose and catch a couple of waves. At least the group of the surf students which are only 6 or 7 years old riding next to us and get every wave awaked our ambitions. We came with a huge smile from the water which disappeared, when another guy told us about the yesterday´s shark attack. Another surfer were bitten in the leg just a bay next to us but could survive the attack. It was a 5m long white pointer. Sharks are just everywhere. Gonna see if he is on a journey as we are, or if he stays a bit longer here.
Well, we have to go and wax or boards again to have no more excuses.

Btw: who wants to read how Nik´s been seeing the trip has just have to click here.
